christ the notes of this post are rancid. a lot of you are talking out of your asses when it comes to who the average trump supporter is and what they want. there are tons of trump supporters who support them bc they’re fully aware of all the fucked up shit he’s done and wants to do. there are also a LOT who voted for him bc he was the republican candidate and didn’t actually know much else. you all need to understand that there has been a concerted effort by republicans for decades to target rural communities with propaganda that makes them distrust mainstream news, leaving shit like fox news and right wing podcasts the news of choice for them. they are quite literally not seeing the same reality we are, they are not seeing the harm he’s causing from an objective lens bc they don’t have an objective lens to look through. rural areas and areas controlled by republicans also tend to have lesser quality education, so voters are literally less likely to understand what they’re voting for, and that’s intentional.

and i can already hear the furious clacking of keyboards telling me “that doesn’t justify bigotry!!!!” and quite frankly i’m not dignifying that with a response bc that’s not the conversation we’re having. we’re not discussing whether voting for trump hurt people. we’re discussing what the fuck we do now and how we work together to keep this fascist administration from killing more people. like i’m sorry but if you truly want to do activism work, you HAVE to acknowledge that doing things that make you uncomfortable is part of the job. being patient with awful people, educating bigots, working with people you fundamentally disagree with. if you’re not okay with that, then good on you for knowing your limits, but it means you will not be helpful in activist work.

it’s not fair. it’s also just the way it is. and at a certain point you have to decide if keeping your hands clean is more important than real world change. so either get your hands dirty with the rest of us and work for a better world, or just bow out. jesus fucking christ.

There was a point in my life where I was fully propagandized – I was much, much younger, but I had barely escaped and was just starting to pull my head out of my ass by the time I voted in my first presidential election. (And yes, this was even despite being queer. I was convinced I could make things better from the inside and if there were enough queer Rs we could change – no, really, I was that delusional. That’s my point.)

There are a LOT of young white people from rural areas who have grown up one hundred percent OOHRAH MURICA Fox News National Review Post-9/11 Country Music propagandized, and they are fully fucking reachable as long as you treat them with a modicum of empathy.

That’s not the only kind of Trump voter you can reach, but man, it’s there.
